Understanding Batch Documentation

Batch documentation creates a traceable record between a research material, its lot identifier, and the analytical report associated with that lot.

01

One Batch, One Record

A lot number identifies a defined production or testing batch. It gives the laboratory and the supplier a common reference when reviewing the applicable documentation.

02

What to Expect in a Batch Record

Depending on the product and report, a batch record may include the product name, lot number, report date, laboratory, test method, result, acceptance specification, and a pass or fail verdict.

03

Use Documentation in Context

A COA documents the analyzed sample and the reported test conditions. It does not replace an institution’s own quality controls, method validation, handling procedures, or research design.
